Sometimes when a dog cannot stay in its own home before being re-homed we may need to take a dog into our care and sometimes it is not the best option for them to go into kennels - if they are very old, very young, do not do well in kennels or need a little extra medical support. In these circumstances where we cannot use kennels we rely upon our volunteer foster homes and we could always do with more!
We are looking for quiet homes where our boxers will be given care for a short time. We will ask that you work closely with us to manage the dog's needs and to help us understand what we need to look for in a suitable forever home. This is a vital part of the work we do, and you would be helping us to make sure the dog finds the perfect home.
If you can provide short term or long term foster for dogs that are not yet ready for adoption or cannot stay in kennels then please read the fostering conditions and complete the registration form below.
We are currently in urgent need of pet and child free foster homes. If you are interested in fostering for HCBW, please complete and submit the form below.
Fostering Conditions
The dog in foster care is the Legal property of Home Counties Boxer Welfare (HCBW).
The foster home will provide their foster dog with care and attention necessary to ensure health and wellbeing. This will include providing sufficient food, water & exercise.
It is the law for any dog to wear an identity tag when out in public, and also to be microchipped. HCBW will ensure that the microchip is registered to the charity, and where appropriate provide an HCBW identity tag for attaching to the dog’s collar. The dog must wear a collar and identity tag at all times when away from the home.
Insurance All foster dogs are covered by public liability insurance. Terms and conditions state that dogs must be kept on a lead when being exercised away from the home. The insurance does not cover damage to fosterer’s home or possessions. Please ensure your home contents insurance covers you for such incidents.
All veterinary costs incurred during a foster period will be reimbursed by HCBW. Dogs in foster care, may need to be vaccinated, wormed, flea treated, microchipped or neutered.
Dogs with medical conditions may need veterinary treatment. In a medical emergency you must seek veterinary treatment immediately and inform HCBW as soon as possible.
In the event the dog is lost or stolen you must inform the police and notify HCBW immediately.
Foster homes must not rehome any dog themselves; all dogs must be rehomed through HCBW. If a foster dog needs to be moved from a foster home it shall be moved under the control of HCBW. No foster dog should be passed onto anyone else without HCBW’s knowledge.
The foster carer agrees to immediately surrender custody of the dog to an HCBW representative upon demand.
You must promptly notify HCBW of any changes in address and/or telephone number.
If you wish to adopt the dog, this must be discussed with HCBW. Standard adoption processes and procedures will apply.
HCBW RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ANY DOG CONSIDERED TO BE UNSUITABLY PLACED IMMEDIATELY.
What we do with your information We keep a confidential password-protected database of registered and provisional adoptive homes along with any information you have discussed with us about your home and your living environment which helps us match the right dog to you and your family. This database can only be access by approved Trustees of HCBW. Our database and your information is not shared with any external partners.
Your name, address and phone number is shared in confidence to one of our appointed volunteer home-checkers in order to arrange a home check visit with you directly. They do not keep this information beyond the visit(s) required to carry out home checks or follow up visits, and send all data and forms from the visit(s) to HCBW without keeping any copies.
If you wish to be removed from the database at any point please contact us at [email protected].
Please note that we will need to keep your data if you have fostered a dog from us for the duration of that dog’s life.
